  • How do I care for my garment?
Your garment is machine washable and will retain most of its colour when washing. Machine wash on a delicate cycle at 30 degrees Celcius for best results. (40 degrees Celcius shouldn't harm the garment but you may notice more of a change in colour over time). If you stain your garment, do not apply soap or detergent directly to the area. See What if I get a stain on my naturally dyed garment? question below. Wash light colours separately. Overall, we recommend you wash your garment as little as possible, as hemp is naturally antibacterial and thus often just needs airing out. Hang your garment to dry away from direct sunlight for best results. Do not tumble dry. Iron inside out on a medium temperature (wool setting).
  • Will the natural dyes wash out?
The natural dyes used with Hemp On Toast staple collections are all chosen for their durability and are able to be washed by machine on a delicate cycle (30 degrees Celcius). A slight fade as well as some subtle colour changes are to be expected though, as the natural dyes react to the water quality and soaps used. As with regular dyes, exposure to sunlight is another factor that will affect the natural dye colour of your garment. For best results, store away from direct sunlight. This also applies when washing and hanging out to dry: avoid hanging in direct sun.
  • Where does the hemp come from?
All the hemp used for Hemp On Toast garments is grown organically in China, with Global Organic Textile certification as well as Textile Exchange certification. The mills operate with high ethical standards for workers. The organic cotton blended with the organic hemp is grown in Turkey and is also Global Organic Textile and Textile Exchange certified.
  • How long will it take my garment(s) to arrive?
This depends on whether the size and colour of the garment you have ordered is in stock or not. Mostly your garment will be made to order - allowing for customization options - and the average lead time on these is 14 days. Please also allow 3-5 working days for your garment to be delivered (longer for non-UK deliveries). Please enquire as to the projected delivery time of your item if time is important.
  • What if I get a stain on my naturally dyed garment?
Don't panic! Rinse the stained area with warm/hot tap water as soon as you can, but we recomment you don't add any soap or stain remover directly to the area. Most natural dyes are more reactive than synthetic dyes (they're a live, natural thing!) so you'll find that applying soap directly, meaning in high concentration, will in most cases cause a reaction and colour change of the garment. Instead, wash the whole garment as you usually would, either by hand or in the machine on a delicate max 40 degrees Celcius cycle, and you should find your stain has washed out. If it is still there, for example with persistent grease/oil stains, apply a diluted solution of washing up liquid (aprox one drop per cup of warm water), apply directly to the stained area, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and dry.
